Hey everybody, Chris here.
First of all, thank you for
listening to Non-Topical. As we
always say,
we appreciate you listening,
and it's great that we've had
the opportunity and have the
opportunity
to share our lives together
with you. That said, Non-Top
ical is going to go on an inde
finite
hiatus, and I don't know that
it's permanent. It's just
something that Kit and I need
to press
pause on for now. There are a
couple of reasons for this.
First, it's been a very
difficult summer for
me personally, and I'm not
going to get into the details
of that. Don't worry, my
relationship with
Kay, my girlfriend, is still
good. I'm abbreviating her name
here. And in general, things
are looking
up, but it's been a difficult
transition. Secondly, the
entire premise of this show,
was predicated upon Kit and I
taking these long walks
together and him constantly
asking,
what I wanted to talk about. So
what do you want to talk about,
Dad? What do you want to talk
about?
And that led to some really
funny and creative
conversations, which Kit and I
both thought
would be entertaining for
people to hear. And that is and
was true. That said, Kit is
also at the age
where he should no longer be
asking, what do you want to
talk about, Dad? He should be
instead driving
conversations that are things
that he actually cares about.
By putting him in a position
where he's always
asking somebody else what
should be discussed, it limits
his ability to really decide
for himself what he wants.
Now, that doesn't mean that
this is going away permanently.
But what it does mean is he
needs
some space to figure himself
out in terms of what he likes,
what he's passionate about,
what he cares about,
versus having me drive the
conversations. And if you look
back at our catalog of past
episodes,
you'll notice that usually it's
me doing most of the talking.
And that's not necessarily a
bad thing. But it needs to move
to a point where he's doing
more talking and I'm kind of
stepping back from the
microphone, so to speak.
Does that mean the show is
fully going away? I hope not,
because it's really a fun
experience to be able to have
that conversation ability with
your developing children.
And also, it's been a lot of
fun. But at the same time, it's
not something that right now
can continue in its current
form, because he really needs a
space to be able to figure out
what he cares about and learn
to drive conversations on his
own.
I do have a couple of
recordings in the can, so there
may be a couple of episodes
released over the next several
months.
And we'll see what happens in
terms of as Kit grows and
changes and learns to embrace
himself if he wants to come
back to it. If he does, great.
If not, I don't know. Maybe I
'll just start recording things
on my own and ramble. I'm
pretty good at doing that.
But really, it wouldn't be the
same in that case. So we'll see
what happens. For now, I just
want to thank everybody for
listening to Nontopical. Thank
you for your support. And thank
you for those who did offer
feedback and encouragement. It
was well worthwhile.
And if anybody out there still
wants to donate a hypothetical
$1,000 to general causes, you
could do it at ko-fi.com/nontopical
And if you do have
any feedback, feedback@nontopical.com
is the place to go.
In the meantime, for Kit and
myself, thank you for listening
, and we hope to be able to
catch you in the future. Thanks
, everyone.
